Opening My Wallet @ the Edward Bess Open House

At the Edward Bess Open House last week, I really wasn't intending to buy anything. I just wanted to pop down, take a look at the full range, play with some testers and leave before my credit card squirmed its way out of my purse.

Makeup display to some, minefield for others.

The simple display didn't take anything away from the quality of the products.

I played with the Compact Rouge, Ultra Slick Lipstick, Illuminating Eyeshadow Base, Quad Royale and the Sheer Satin Cream Compact Foundation. As with the All Over Seduction illuminators, texture was really the high point for me. The texture and lightweight feel of all the products was really impressive, especially the Sheer Satin Cream Compact Foundation (S$69 on Luxola).

The caucasion manager there told me she had the Bare shade on and though I peered as closely as good manners allowed, I couldn't make out any trace of foundation! I swatched the foundation in Nude and Bare (both of which are suited my medium fair skin) and the creamy foundation just melted into my skin, covering up most of the fine lines on my hand. My usual foundation is more likely to settle into my lines so you see why I'm excited about this ^__^

I was really torn between the Sheer Satin Cream Foundation and the Quad Royale (S$56).

Quad Royale for Face, Cheek and Eyes
Clockwise from top: Monte Carlo, South of France & Summer in Capri

Something to note about if you're ever playing with the Quad Royale testers. Sometimes the swatching does not show up accurately, sometimes not even at all, if you test on the inner arm. I don't know, maybe my skin is just wonky. Couldn't see much colour until I gave up and did a quick swipe on my cheek~

Long story short, I caved in and left with these:

Clockwise from top: Edward Bess Quad Royale in Summer in Capri,
Korres Anti-Age Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream sample, Sleek Makeup Luminaire
Highlighting Concealer and Sleek Maximum Impact Eyeshadow in Fig (my free gift!)

Will review the Quad Royale very soon =)

Looks like highlighters or illuminating blushers are my current buying trend..hopefully I won't be tempted again anytime soon, hopefully not till next year at least! o(>_<)o

What's on your buying radar then? =D

  1. Awe, too bad you didn't get the sheer satin cream foundation. I would have loved to see how that works out on you, especially hearing that it didn't settle into your fine lines when you swatched it.

By the way, I've been meaning to ask, what concealers do you use to cover your acne marks?....as I also have acne marks. I'm currently using MAC studio fix concealer, but I'm always on the lookout for something better and with more staying power for my oily skin.

    1. I knowwww, the cream foundation was so temptingggg BUT seeing as these cream-to-powder foundations are popping up everywhere this fall/winter, I'm convinced I'll find a drugstore substitute very soon~

Hmmm concealers...unfortunately I don't use MAC so can't do a brand to brand comparison..I'm only using the ZeroKuma and Maybelline Mineral concealers at the moment, and those are working alright~ I used to have Canmake Cover & Stretch UV concealer which was really good, I went through 2 tubes but got distracted by other brands =/ I used the 02 Natural Beige shade but as usual 03 Ochre Beige was a match as well. It's about S$20 in drugstores here, way cheaper in Japan *sigh*

    2. Thanks for the reply. Yeah like you, I always try to find drugstore brand, but unfortunately, what is available at the drugstore for you is not available for me. But I guess I can try the Maybelline Mineral concealer since Maybelline is drugstore brand here in the US. What shade do you wear in this concealer?
